Hair growth and loss is cyclical by nature, and there’re many factors which influences its growth: age, ethnicity, medication, level of hormones, body area. There are three main stages which make up our hair cycle; the first of these is the anagen phase, when hair grows. In adults the anagen phase can last anything between three and seven years, depending on the size of the hair follicle.
It is followed rapidly by the catagen, or transitional phase. This is when hair stops growing, and the follicle rapidly regresses in preparation for the shedding phase. In contrast to the anagen phase, catagen typically lasts only a couple of weeks.
The telogen phase then begins. This normally lasts around 100 days at the end of which the hair, which has now ceased to grow, will spontaneously shed, making way for a new hair shaft which is forming within the hair canal during this period.
A normal adult’s head of hair will typically be made up of 90% of follicles in the anagen phase and just 10% in the telogen phase. As these statistics show, the number of hairs in catagen is minimal, normally less than 1%.
Laser Hair Removal is a non-invasive procedure, thru which the unwanted hair is removed out of almost any body area. The optimal parameters are carefully set based on the skin type and the hair follicle thickness, depth and location to prevent future growth. Good handling technics also help remove facial hair.
Please avoid tweezing, waxing or any other type of procedure which requires plucking the hair 4 weeks before the appointment.
Please avoid bleaching the skin 4 weeks before the procedure. Bleaching makes the changes the color of the pigment and decreases the laser ability to find the follicle.
Please mark the appointment on the calendar. Also, it will be very helpful to write down “no tanning” on the period which is 4 weeks before the treatment. This means no exposure to UV rays including natural, artificial tanning and bronzer sprays. If you are engaged in an activity which requires sun exposure (e.g. face, neck, arms) please use a higher than 30 SPF lotion even during fall-winter periods.
Check with our professionals if the areas which require to be treated have been exposed to UV rays for long periods of time. We will tell you at that point if the laser hair removal procedure needs to be rescheduled or not.
Please shave the area which needs to be treated one or two days prior. On the day of the procedure please avoid using deodorant, perfume, lotion or make-up on those areas. Try not to take aspirin, tetracycline, prophylactics, photo-sensitive or hormone medication. Medication based on steroids are not to be taken.
